Tommy L
If something goes bang, then the computer doesn't turn on, is that usually the power supply?
AJLynn
What sort of bang was it? Did it abruptly power down? Does it smell?
Tommy L
An abrupt bang. I didnt realise the machine was out (its a node) until the next day. I thought something fell off a shelf. Didnt notice a smell, but on opening the box, it was a little acrid. Ill try swapping out the psu.
AJLynn
Sounds like PSU or possibly a motherboard component. Visually inspect the board and any PCI cards for any charring/discoloration/melted plastic/shattered capacitors or what have you.
olly
Capacitors usually go pop, so mobo or PSU...
BrianKitts
how about a fan breaking and flinging a blade at a good speed into the case... that's be pretty good thud..... shortly followed (a day later) by the computer overheating and dying. ihabkal
psu blown away. Had the same thing happen to me and many times. The funniest time, I was just back from the US, the next day after getting some sleep I plugged in the computer and boom. 110V psu in a 220V socket. It is funny because it had a manual switch on the back to transform it to 220V, and I knew it but I just FORGOT.
