Materials Assignments Propagating to Instanced Objects

Ever since I had Max 2008 reinstalled, all instanced clones of objects automatically assume the same material assignment (even when only one of the clones is being assigned said material).

 

This never used to happen before. I've always been able to assign unique materials to any cloned object.

 

How do I get this function switched back to normal?

NEVER MIND... I just found the problem. My "Propagate Materials to Instances" box was checked in the Material Editor dialog Options pulldown. :D
