YOHKOH
Hi there I've done a search but no luck in answering this properly I just want to snap from the centre of my pivot point, when in "affect pivot only", to a vertex or line or a fixed point. Problem is the snap doesn't recognise the centre of my pivot point. Does anyone know a solution, I have pivot checked in snap setting btw. Ta very much Edit: Kind of figured a work around by creating an object at the pivot point using snap to pivot and then snapping from that to desired new location for pivot. Pain though. BrianKitts
when you have the pivot snap turned on, don't try to grab the pivot gizmo itself, but rather hover over the object of the pivot you want to grab. It will light up a bounding box for the whole object when the snap is locked on to the pivot point. Then mouse to your target point You have to be careful if you have other snaps turned on as it will grab to those first. In the screen shot I'm using vertex snap as well to aim for a target so I'm selecting the pivot by mousing in the center of the object where there are no vertices. Stephen Thomas
No scripts required, there's a little known quad menu that does the job. Hold shift and right click, then choose pivot from the list of snap overrides. Select the pivot point and while still holding the left mouse button on the pivot shift and right click again. This time go to vertex and release the left mouse button to select, then just click on the desired point. A lot easier in practise than it is to describe! WAcky
or do what I do and check the option in the pic provided. Select the item and lock it (space bar). Now click anywhere in the viewport and make sure you're not snapping to anything. This will automatically select the exact center of the pivot (or any selected object for that matter) This is SUCH a handy tool when trying to move objects that are hard to pick. YOHKOH
Nice one guys. Thanks for the help. Saving me a lot of aggro already. I feel positively exhilarated, didn't realise pivot point placement would be such a hot topic. It was always something I though really lame about max, but happy happy days are to follow.Sounds stupid but being able to do this makes a big difference just to accuracy and getting objects to function properly with each other. benlungu
Well i tried like you said but i still think the script is a lot faster and easier because you also have the option to center the pivot by one
