hughie
you were on the right track, depending on the feel you want there are a myriad of ways to get it, a simple solution would be to use a noise in the bump and a mix with noise and smoke in the displacement. for the size think about how big you want the ripples 500 -1000 should do the trick use fresnel refelections. that should get you started
Eric Sosa
it all depends on how realistic you want your ocean to look; color, waves, camera angle, etc. you can make your water as hughie suggested or simply try a vray material with water on (from vraymaterials.de). I did visualize a ship in the middle of the ocean and used a vray mat with water on. it was easy to adjust noise, color, size, etc...and it did look good enough for what I need it. good luck
nivvu
hi, yes i agree with eric if u want a realistic ocean environment..... if ur camera angle is close to the water then u can work on realistic output....and if its far then the way which u have aproached is good all thebest nivvu:)
bluediablito
thank you all for the quick reply .......... this is my current project and the one i need ocean for...... http://forums.cgarchitect.com/39709-wip-c-c-kite-shop.html as you can see i don't need realistic water but i need a good quantity . so i was thinking of using vrayplane but i am unable get any displacement nor bumps on it.............i was wondering is it possible at all to get waves on a vray plane or will i have to create a wave out of regular plane..............also i was trying with dream-scape but the rendering time takes x10 what it normally do..... Eric Sosa
do not complicate your live, you scene (sea water), is easy to visualize. use a vraymat with water on!...as I mentioned before. see the pic I upload, it tool me few minutes to adjust its look. you are still welcome to create your own water...tho Edited February 13, 2010 by Eric Sosa
bluediablito
Eric Sosa thank you for the reply ,,,,,,by the way i like your water i have made an atempt to create an ocean with a vray material and a large plane with noice and a few things i cant remember (i use one of my old material .i think from 2008 lol) my quick questions..... 1.did you use a plane? (lol it looks like if it goes into infinity) 2.can you please tell me your settings for your water or the name of the material. 3.other than the water i feel that my image (scene is missing something to tell the story but i don't know what ) (i have also tried a vray material from the website but the water does not look.........i guess i had to tweak it ) sorry that i am posting kinda late i just got out of work...getting ready to go to sleep to do it all over again lol (hate my job lol but it plays my bills ...) thank you again for every one help Edited February 13, 2010 by bluediablito
Eric Sosa
jonathan, I lost my ship file unfortunately, but I remember doing it over a plane with the water material applied. remember trying 3 different vray "sea/pool water materials" from that site, all 3 materials downloaded have info about bump, reflection, displacement, etc. for you to adjust easily. the pic at the end is also a plane with the sky. this plane has to be set to no GI and excluded from shadows, ligth & enviroment, tho still affect reflections & reflactions....this is the way I did it. good luck again
