architectandy
Hi I have been tasked to build the island of Orkney in the far north of Scotland. My first thought was to use something like Vue - would this software do the job?? I wasn't to sure if it could do exact existing environments. If there are any other bits of software out there that could this - can someone point them out to me?? Any other suggestions on how to start this would be great.... Cheers - Andy
JonRashid
You can obtain the 3D data from the OS people. However if you cant stretch to this then obtain a map. Trace the contour splines and raise these to the relevant heights. This will then provide you with a spline cage which can be surfaced. Often you can use your original OS map as a texture or at least the basis for one on your mesh. Post some images when your done
architectandy
Thanks for getting back to me ... I've only just downloaded the PLE version, so I'll give it a go over the next few weeks. I fairly sure I can get my hands on the contour data so fingers crossed it'll look OK. I was just a bit aprehensive to start learning new software when ultimatley I couldn't achieve what I wanted in the first place. Thanks again.
