amer abidi
So the third art is architecture, and the seventh in cinema (or film). What are the rest? first, second, fourth, etc...? Tried a quick google / wiki search but found nothing. Anyone know? Edited February 18, 2010 by amer abidi
Stephen Thomas
There seems to be a bit of confusion/debate over the order but it derives from Hegel's 'Lectures on Aesthetics'. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lectures_on_Aesthetics Here he describes 5 art forms: architecture, sculpture, painting, music and poetry. These were expanded upon by Ricciotto Canudo in 1911 in a publication called ' The Birth of the 6th Art' relating to cinema. He later added dance as a precursor, thereby making cinema number seven. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ricciotto_Canudo How architecture sometimes gets swapped to number three I'm not too sure...
