mfured20
Hi guys! Long time no post! Anyway, I have finally been contracted to do my first animation. Its a place in Iowa, with a very distant horizon line. Its going to include some areal shots, and I was hoping to use some fog to shroud that horizon line. I have attached a shot of the type of camera angle I am talking about, although its not finalized at all. On to the problem: I have tried stills with the fog, and it looks great, but when I go to try to use vRaySP4's new Irrmap/LC prepass and rendering modes, my frame times skyrocket from 10 mins to 2 hours. I was wondering if anyone else has successfully used EnviroFog with that animation mode. I can't figure out if its kinda incompatible, or if I am doing something idiotic. Any thoughts on this issue? I'll be sure to update if I finally find a solution/ answer to my troubleshooting. Thanks gang!
mfured20
Sorry guys and gals, the image I posted above DOES have fog in it, the one I am attaching here DOES NOT. You can see the difference, and I would love to cover that up for the animation. Ill try a short test tonight at HD res and see what happens. Craig Ramsay
I've not played around with Vray Fog much but I'm guessing there's a quicker way to do this. How about rendering out a Z-depth pass and using it to add fog in post? Craig
CJI
At the distance your talking thats certainly the way to do it i think. Will save you so much heartache i think.
mfured20
Well guys, I will show you my incredible newbieness [even tho I have been doing this type of thing for 3 years], and tell you that I have no idea how to do a z-depth channel. I suppose I will have to learn. I am going to keep experimenting with vRay Enviro fog for the moment tho, and post up my results here. Might help someone else down the line. Thanks for your time! mfured20
ha, I actually found this link already, but thank you for your time. You, sir, are a gentleman and a scholar. I am planning on doing a couple of comparisons and posting them up here for other people to use, but I havent quite gotten around to it yet.
