US military people props

hmm... unfortunately I don't have any at easy3dsource, and I can't think of any other places off hand. Sounds like yet another potential library. Seems like there are a handful of very niche scenarios that nobody else is providing. My only suggestion at the moment would be to try to shoot the photos yourself, or get ahold of some uniforms and have some friends model in front of a green / blue screen.

Uniforms run about $60-150 each new, cheaper if you have something like an I-Goldburg to get some surplus gear, price depending on where and what ranks. they are also in the process of updating the look of a lot of the standard uniforms.

Last time i had to do this i simply painted some custom textures for the higher end AXYZ models. it works well, but the number of suitable models for re-purposing is pretty small.

Alex: I for one would buy any decent library.

Why not hang out near a military base and take pictures of soldiers walking around, and performing drills?

What could go wrong?

Sorry, I have no useful info to add other than I agree with looking into the option of purchasing your own and taking pictures of your friends posing.

There are some pretty good figure models of military persons on FormFonts. Whoever does the people there is really good. The models are low-poly, but they sub-divide really well.

There is also another good figure modeler on 3Dwarehouse who does a lot of working people and may have military. If you need some astronauts, though, he's your man. Technically, most astronauts are Air Force, so try using them.

Can you show your pictures? Military projects sound like they would be fun to do.

Ernest-

Thanks for the links...the formfont ones aren't too bad. I don't know if I can show them or not, so to be on the safe side, I won't. Believe me, they're nothing exciting, just dining halls and other buildings with names like TEMF and BDE. It's hard to make a rendering pretty when you can't place any vegetation within 80' of the building.

Great, now I need military people! I have virtually no budget too, I didn't even think I'd need to add people in the rendering and now they want 20-30 personnel in fatigues in the shot, all at a pretty close distance. Great! Has anybody found any new resources since this thread ended?

Nothing new here. Still on the lookout for something useful (and cheap).

Here's a picture of my toy soldier. JK:)

I was just browsing Google since I'm a little bored

but I can't really find anything that's inexpensive.

Good luck though.

i didn't see this til today. i've been in the military for 21 years and have thousands of pics. what exactly are you looking for. if i don't have it, i'm sure i can get it.

Shoot, I didn't even see your post till just now! Man, thanks for the offer but I'm actually getting close to wrapping up the project. I had to rely on borrowing some images from the internet. Maybe you can put a nice collection together and sell it. Guess there might be some legal hurdles with that one though.

Though, if I had an extra 3k in the budget, I would totally be buying these. http://rocketbox-libraries.com/us/index.php/complete-soldiers.html They look great.

Thread drift warning:

I don't have any people props to help you, but the subject of military renderings reminded me of several years ago when I was commissioned to do images of a new U.S. Navy submarine testing facility building. When I asked them for plans, they said they couldn't give me any because they were classified. When I asked how I was suppose to render it without knowing the design, they said, "Just fake it. Put in a bunch of tanks and pipes and valves and stuff." Which I did and they seemed happy. I have no idea what these images would have been useful for, but they paid me well. Your tax dollars at work.

Haha, that sounds about right. As I was looking through this thread again I was thinking about how I was taking photos here in Chicago and a couple police officers got upset that they might have been in the shot and tried demanding I hand over my camera. I could only imagine the sort of trouble you'd get into if you were to actually attempt to photograph military personnel...

Haha i wonder... but yeah I agree his best bet would be to purchase some or maybe replicas of some on Etsy or Ebay!
