wasteland giant
so I've got this thing I need to texture. Massing block with multiple blocks in one object. mapping individual faces with street front images... The below process was working before but now its suddenly stopped. process: select polyface/face drag texture from folder it will assign to object/face The thing is, this will work in a new file but now in the file I'm working on anymore. If I open a new file and import the geometry (merge) it will work again. I can't think its a setting but it could be.
LukeC
I could have missed the point of what you are doing, but why dont you use a multi / sub-object material and set the poly material IDs to match those of the material? I know this doesn't directly answer your question. Sorry
wasteland giant
I'd do a multisub material but this object is meant to have 200+ materials/different maps (source model has that - and there wasn't a way to export the model out of the planning/XML software - called Enviro - its a massing model of a city) - I've got to do this whole thing manually. The dragging dropping onto faces made it very easy but it suddenly stopped working. * I've since merged the whole file into a new MAX file and its working again. luckymutt
It sounds like at some point the "Copy/Rotate Drag Mode Toggle" was hit in your Material Editor. This can be set from the Options-> menu or by right-clicking in a material slot. When set to Rotate, you can rotate the preview sphere to see how your material is looking from other angles, but you will not be able to drag from the slot to your viewports or to another slot. This is a setting that follows the scene, so merging into a new scene would have the default settings as you would expect.
