jun_icoi3e
Sorry if this is a newbie question. I have a i7 920 system 4gb ram with win7 64 bit i bought recently. I have install 3dmax 2010 64 bit and vray 1.5 sp3a. When i render a scene using vray, I can see my 8 cores in the task manager but none of them are running at 100%. I was wondering what could be the problem for this. Is it my software issue or my hardware configuration? Thanks in advance. Jun
RenderStream
The intel i7 920 is a 4 core CPU which has hyper-threading technology. If you have hyper-threading disabled and you examine the performance tab of the windows task manager you will see 4 CPU’s being graphed. When you enable hyper threading you will see 8 processors present. Hyper-Threading Technology delivers thread-level parallelism on each processor resulting in more efficient use of processor resources. It doesn't mean that your render times will double when enabled. Our tests showed a 27% speed increase when we enabled HT. The configuration was run 4 times at a room temperature of 72 degrees. So what you are seeing graphed in the task manager could be misleading since it is graphing 8 virtual cores when in fact you really only have 4 physical cores. I'm sure your hardware and software is running just fine. hope that helps, -joe Edited March 3, 2010 by RenderStream
Grohu
If you are using Light Cache make sure you set it to 8 passes. Not even sure if sp3 has that option but I know people were having same issues. Why don't you upgrade to sp4a btw?
