AJLynn
Guys, I'm putting together some data for an article and I want to get more results from the latest Cinebench (11.529). If you have some time, please help me out by downloading it from cinebench.com and running the OpenGL, CPU and CPU single core, exiting the program and letting it save the results then posting the resulting text file (which appears in the cb_ranking folder in the Cinebench folder). Please also make sure you don't have anything running that's using a lot of CPU while you run Cinebench. I'm especially looking for more results from Geforce cards, workstation class cards and dual CPU systems. Thanks!
Frosty
I know where you're going with this and I like it. I have no idea why review sites continue to use Cinebench and then quote the results in seconds rather than in Cinebench score. The whole point of the app is to have a base standard application and unit by which to measure hardware rendering performance. I'll run it this weekend on my Mac Pro. Here's hoping I break 20,
AJLynn
They actually changed the scoring system - an i7 gets about a 5. My 2006 Macbook Pro gets a 1.00, which is really useful for normalizing. OpenGL is scored in FPS. Those crappy shared memory cards get under 10 (when they can run it at all) but an i5 or i7 with a decent Radeon gets in the 20s or 30s. I ran it on an i7 laptop with a Radeon 5870 and it got a 2.9 in rendering and a 24 in OpenGL, which impressed the crap out of me.

AJLynn
Now that's fast. Thanks. I should also mention that the reason I'm asking for all this is that the most recent version of Cinebench uses a more efficient bucket rendering system and has more OpenGL features turned on than older versions. Multi-CPU rendering is near 100% efficient so where older versions that were not efficient in multithreading gave you no real idea of, for example, how a hyperthreaded i7 would compare to a fast Core 2 Quad when you're actually running mental ray, the new version is comparable to other renderers. It also runs just as well on Mac and Windows and the results are comparable.

AJLynn
Jason - One of those Quadro 1800's is on a faster-per-core CPU than the other. GPU and single-threaded CPU are both factors.

R.S
FYI the new Core i7-980X is averaging aboot 8.8 (R11.5 xCPU) in most reviews I have seen. Works out to a 28% increase in cost over a 2P E5520 for 7% increase in performance.

Jason Matthews
How are we coming with the result show? AJLynn I know you have been putting a lot of effort in to this. On a side note, the question I had earlier regarding the video cards giving two different scores. A friend of mine said that he had a card (no name of the card) that was running pretty well and benched at a certain frames per second. The power supply went out and he put in a 600W instead of the 350 that was originally there. He re-ran the bench on the card and it nearly doubled in frames per second. True or not I don't know but has anyone else heard of this? The video card being under powered? I just assumed that the card wouldn't work period. AJLynn
I've heard of under powered power supplies, but I've never heard of the rest of the hardware knowing the power supply is insufficient and throttling itself. The results are going into an article I'm doing for the beginning of April for 3DATS. Thanks again, guys.
