Paul Davison
Hello, I was wondering if anybody could point me in the right direction to find a tutorial that can teach me how to animate a structure being built. I really like the animations where pieces come flying in from all over to construct a form but really unsure how to do it, can anybody help? Thanks for looking! DanGrover
For what it's worth, I wrote an animation offset script (Really, really simple) for when I was working on a project like this. It involved lots of steps and whatnot flying into the shot. To save doing it by hand, you can just animate everything at once, then run the script and it'll offset them by as much as you want. You can grab it from my website: http://www.ego-chimp.com/dangrover/?page_id=115 It's the top one.
Matt Sugden
I gave this a go the other day http://area.autodesk.com/blogs/louis/reveal_techniques_and_autodesk_university_in_las_vegas pretty cool stuff! I'm not convinced this is the best method as it seems very combersum and relies on having your UV maps set up the same for the reveal as it is for the material (tricky). I do a lot of construction animations, and my main tricks are using slice modifiers (top or bottom removed), which I can animate the postions of. I often cap these as well so it gives a nice solid edge. And the other thing which I use extensively is the object properties 'visibility', which I auto key from 0-1 or 1-0 on subsequent frames. I beleive having frames with inbetween values other than 0 or 1 can cause some issues with some lighting plugins.
