Hey guys, i recently graduated from college with a degree in Game Art Design. While still looking for a game art job, i also spend alot of time in VRAY doing arch renders cause i enjoy them so much.

Im prepping to start looking around Chicago where i live for Arch Design Studios.

I am very unfamiliar with website or job boards that list these types of positions, i have tons for game art but arch viz im struggling.

Anyon know good sites or how to search these companies out besides simply googling lol

Also what would you like to see if you were to hire?

Thanks tremendously

Nick

We get a lot of guys with similar backgound applying for jobs in my company.

The main reason why we havent hired anyone with game/animation background is that their portfolio is filled up with all sorts of "3d stuff" that makes me think that they would prefer to be somewhere else than in a "plain viz company".

I would drop anything arbitrary and make a kick ass (pure) viz portfolio..... Pick some companies of your choice (from googling) and write a personal e-mail to each of the companies.

Try to sell other qualities as well, not just your portfolio. You wouldn't believe how many "default" and unpersonal applications we get every year.

Things are pretty tough in Illinois much like everywhere else. Not much architectural structures are being built and big jobs are few and far between. I agree with TrondGreve, put together a solid portfolio and send it out. You might not hear anything back right away but if your work is noticable they might either hire you because they see the potential or keep you in mind when work starts to pick up again. Good luck.

Thanks guys

I currently have one domain for my website, i have a handful of pure arch viz shots which i am currently doing way more and alot of game art.

Is it better to create a seperate website specifically for arch viz? or just segregate the site, have one side of images labled arch viz and otherside game art?

create a separate website

i don't think that the people interested in archviz will find game-art appealing.

you can have something like: yourdomain/archviz and yourdomain/gameart and you can link between them, but don't mix archviz with game-art, those are totally different things.

What makes an email more personal/personable to stand out from crowd?

If I am hiring, I would like to see your strengths, so tune your portfolio to show those.

Not everyone is great all around. Many aspects are in arch viz. Speed Modelling, Rendering, Texturing and Photoshop Touchup, Rigging, Animation / Aftereffects, NPR, Photoshop-2d full viz.

So if we already have great renderers inhouse, I wouldn't really need another one. What I'm looking would be someone who has 'other skills' to complement the workforce arsenal.

Sometimes we are swarmed with evermo stuff in all renders that it looks almost the same all over. Anything that makes you stand out is worth to try. Just example :

If your postpro is good, showing raw-postpro comparison might be good to catch attention. If you are confident about speed, then put render / production time per image. If your render skill is exceptional, then show them the raw output, mention that it's direct output without touchup.

Hope that helps.
