YOHKOH
Hi there I'm trying to render just single object in vray, but I want it to take into account all shadows and lighting surrounding it. What i'm actually trying to do is render a 3d tree and then have a flat render of it to place on a plane facing the camera, therefore reducing poly count. I dont particalulary want to use matt elements. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
erickdt
You can do this by selecting everything in the scene except the tree or object you are trying to render. Right click => VRay Properties => Check the "matte object" box and change alpha contribution to -1.0. Then hit render. Only the object you haven't changed to a matte object will render while the other objects will become totally transparent. In the instances of objects in front of your tree/object, they will also become transparent creating a masking pattern in front of your object.
