design_geek_83
I am trying to make a perforated metal skin and was wondering if anyone knew a way to make 3d geometry using a texture map.
danb4026
Do you need to actually model the perforated metal? Why not use the texture map in the opacity slot?
design_geek_83
This is a group project with a few others who are using sketchup, I assume that a texture map with opacity would not transfer between the programs? That would definitely be the ideal solution.
danb4026
I see. Well I would create a rectangle and then create an array of circles within the rectangle. Attach all, and extrude the rectangle.
design_geek_83
Thanks, Dan. Tried and true! After reading about texture maps with opacity I was hoping they had added some sweet new feature I had yet to discover.
jinsley
you can map opacity into sketchup also using a .png file. if you google it, I'm sure you will find something to explain it... I can't see modeling perforated panels like that being very efficient unless you are looking at them from only a few feet away.
