A 470 should use less power (which means runs cooler) than a 275 or 280 and the price is more in line with expectations. If you want the stereo effect, get that. (It doesn't require a new monitor.)

Okay check this out guys..it is of interest to anyone running a dual monitor setup. It seems the 480 runs extra hot when using a dual monitor setup, like most of us do:

Wow, that's pretty darn hot, and in a pretty well ventilated case too. As with most hard core gamer items, this seems to be not for the faint of heart - you'll need very good cooling and a very robust power supply, all of which is expensive, and adds to your electric bill. I think that if you're a hard core gamer, the practical difficulties must be some kind of badge of honor.

 

I'm not a hard core gamer - I'm still using the FireGL V5200 I got in grad school and don't feel the need to upgrade, but if I did this would all make the ATi cards look very appealing. When I do game, there's the PS3, which seemed expensive and power hungry at the time but this makes it seem like a bargain. And it doubles as a Blu Ray and Netflix player.
