Little help with monitor brands

Recommended Posts

Looking for a new monitor. Originally I was going to get the dell u2410 since i have read pretty good things about it on this website, but now I think i might want (2) 22" monitors instead and there does not seem to be a 22" dell as good as the u2410.

I do a lot cad work, rendering, and photoshop. I have a hell of a time printing accurate colors on my inkjet, so I would like to get a relatively professional (cost prohibitive of course) monitor that I can calibrate.

I was flipping through the Eizo, planar, and nec websites this morning, but I am kind of lost since they have several monitors that seem to be almost exactly the same.

22" semi-professional monitor. I can probably afford max $500-$600 per monitor.

any suggestions?

I'm not going to comment on brands, just that what you should be looking for is a panel that uses IPS or PVA technology instead of TN, and that after you get set up the first thing you should do is calibrate the displays using a hardware device such as an Eye One Display 2, and don't overdo it on monitor brightness. This, with a good printer using paper profiles, should get your printing under control. (Jeff wrote a good explanation of all this in that 3DATS Advanced book and you should have a look at it if you're not aready familiar with all this, because it's got a lot more depth than what I just wrote.)
