Peter M. Gruhn Posted March 31, 2010 Share Posted March 31, 2010 I'm using them even as we speak for some distant cultured stone. Some brick pavers (or maybe it's press patterned concrete). I tried them for splitface block and I think the failing was in the source, not the maps. I tried them for tile roof and... nothing says title roof (S profile) like real geometry. Two reasons: - I find I can get a better look out of the normal map. A much strong sence of geometric texture. - In this outdoor scene straight bump maps are hardly showing up at all unless they are driven to the point of looking horrible. When I use normal maps, the shadows of the objects which use them seem to shift a bit.
