Ernest Burden III
When you get email on an iphone, can you save an attached file to the phone's memory? Then, would it be easy enough to connect it to a Windows machine to transfer the files off? I've only transferred photos off my iphone, and I noticed that when I looked at the files on the phone via Window's file browser, I did not see any of the files that would be movies or programs, etc. So I wondered if the phone could really be used as an effective flash drive. Crazy Homeless Guy
This is one of my complaints about the iPhone. I have a 5g iPod as well, and when I plug it in, it is recognized as a hard drive that I can use to store files like I would any portable hard drive. This is not the case with the iPhone. I have seen a number of apps in the store that allow you to do wireless file storage to your iPhone, but none that wallow you to drag and drop files on the drive when it is plugged in. Also, the wireless transmit seemed to be limited in the type of files that could be transmitted. Meaning it might be limited to jpg, doc, tif, etc... I wonder if jailbreaking it would open it up as a hard drive? EDIT: Maybe something in this article... http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/6-ways-to-turn-your-iphone-into-an-external-hard-disk/ . Trick
Look into FileApp Pro: use it all the time, at client locations too. There must be a WIFI network though !! Then you can simply type in the iPhone's IP in windows explorer and you're connected.
Crazy Homeless Guy
EDIT: This allowed me to create directories on the phone, but crashed once I started copying files. Anyone else want to try? ________________________ Just downloaded and installed this one. You still need iTunes and this piece of software, so it is not as nice as the way the old iPods worked in this regard, but it does work. You can create your own directories on the phone, and store files there, etc... This piece of software is free for the time being, just make sure to grab the registration code off of the website. http://www.macroplant.com/phonedisk/ Edited November 2, 2010 by Crazy Homeless Guy
