monkeyman905
Hi people, Got this issue with vray and ive been playing round for a while now trying to sort it, the texture is appering seethrough. I havent added any refraction or reflection to the material yet so i know thats not the issue. the sky is a jpeg and is set in the max standard eviroment slot. Image sampler adaptive subdevision, with irradiance map and quasi-monte carlo as second bounce.
montecarlomethod
if your trying to light the scene with that jpg. use the vray dome light n put it in the texture slot. try no gi to see if it does it. jpg set to screen on environment map shouldn't give u that if your lighting the scene with another source like dome or the Gi environment slot in vray rollout. if there's a glossy reflection in those areas it might need a more drastic falloff too. can't really tell without the file. Stephen Thomas
You have your texture map set to Screen mode. Therefore all reflections/refractions are shown as a straight projection of the jpeg from the camera. Either use two different images, one for the background and one for reflections, or use a 360° panorama set to Spherical mode for both.
monkeyman905
Thanks for the replys changing the enviroment from screen to spherical enviroment worked, but i have an issue that the enviroment map looks like its zoomed in now like its appearing closer to the camera, how do i get the map to zoom out so it looks like it did when it was set to screen, tried the angle and offset in the material but no look. Thanks again
Stephen Thomas
That's because it's taking your small area of clouds and wrapping it round a sphere. You need to use a proper panoramic image, there are some free ones here to download: http://www.cgtextures.com/ You should be able to find one that matches your background image. monkeyman905
Right thanks, took me ages to find this one at the right angle, most pics of the sky are lookin upwards not actually in the clouds looking down!! Ill have a look not holdin my breath though lol, hopefully they will be something thank you! If not wat would u suggest in doing??
Stephen Thomas
Your background image is fine, you just need to find a different image to use for your reflections. As long as it is similar in colour and cloud cover etc then it should be fine. Just use the environment override in your render dialogue box and drop the new image into the 'Reflection/Refraction environment override' slot. Once you get your head around how the different mapping types work you'll realise why you can't take an image with a small angle of view and expect the software to reflect things that aren't there. monkeyman905
Thanks again stef, Ive got the reflections sorted with an image from cgtextures and ive set the map as an enviroment map in the vray enviroment reflection/refaction enviroment override. my issue still lies with the background image, if i but it in the vray enviroment skylight overide then it just renders black (ive played with the phys cam no luck) and if i put it in the max evrioment map slot it appers to zoomed in?
