Rwande
Greetings guys There's an extremely weird thing happening with my max in the past couple of months since I moved to 64bit windows due ram overdose. The syndrome is simple, when I'm moving the viewport, zoom etc... especially when edges visible max crashes, shows the well known and typical error message then offers to save a recovery file then bye bye, drop back to desktop. I've tried to figure out what the hell may cause this since its occurred first time. I was expecting that the motherboard may cause it because after I bought the machine it started having motherboard related issues so I replaced it finally when it went dark. No, not the motherboard is the issue. On win7 64bit I could catch 2 files after a crash that could put me closer to the answer but no luck. It just made me pointing to the vga driver (geforce 8800gt). So I installed and went through all driver versions, no change... then vga became suspicious because there was many occasion when the screen changed weirdly into vibrating pink purple pixels or 1-2 bluescreens daily at the last couple of days before replacement. Had a thought maybe faulty hardware. The most obvious reason if it's happening during viewport handling isn't it? I didn't want to spend money on the machine anymore but job came in, vga replaced (geforce gtx260). No... not the graphics card the problem here. Now I'm in the stage when can't think of anything else just that 64 bit has compatibility issues but seemly impossible to find the solution. I was thinking is this happening only with me? Or there are others with the same issue but found solution. So I googled it but nothing. However one of my friend changed to 64bit and check this out. He got the some problem. Can I ask some assistance in this serious issue guys? Anyone experienced this before or have any idea why and when is this happening? Many thanks! Bruce Hart
Hi, I had some problems with Max crashing with a new video card (FX1800) on a new 64 bit system. The problem was that the drivers for my card are not compatible with DirectX 10. Have you tried changing your Max config to Open GL to see if it works? RevitGary
Have you installed the service pack. That might do it
Rwande
Nah it's the same with openGL unfortunately. vga is compatible with dx10 but anyway I keep hunting. hotfix/sp does not make any difference. Cheers guys
Husam
Yes, I have the same problem. I'm using 3ds max 2009 64bit. Graphics card is FX4600. It's a common problem on 64bit systems. You can read more about it at the following link: http://area.autodesk.com/forum/autodesk-3ds-max/autodesk-3ds-max--3ds-max-design-2009/periodic-crash-using-middle-scroll-wheel/
Rwande
Thanks Husam but solution found sry for not posting it sooner. It's caused by viewcube. It needs to be removed properly.
