gdamaso88
could the resolution of bitmaps in the materials significantly affect the render times? If so what is a good resolution/ image size for bitmaps used for materials? right now the images i'm using are as high as 2mb. Is this too large? any help would be appreciated. braddewald
No, that shouldn't be too large at all.
aristocratic3d
It depends of how many textures are you using? 2mb textures may be large if you are using more than 50 textures like this. Its better to keep it within 500kb. and 1024 res if possible. you know that you can optimize your scene in many way.
Maxnmayageoff
Yes the size of textures has a great deal to do with the render times. Not only the size in megabyte but the pixels res as well. If you are creating a flythrough it is best to keep the texture size at some consistent scale for example 512 pixels to 1 metre of real world dimension. If you are panning a camera close then up that to 1024 per metre. These are not definitive rules but if you try to keep map sizes consistent it will help greatly. Folks in the games industry are very conscious of this. So we in vis can adopt some of their scene saying methods.
