Dave Buckley
i should know this but i don't. whenever i import geometry from sketchup, it's nice a clean, however one problem is that it's an edit mesh. if i add edit poly modifier or convert to editable poly, i get a lot of unwanted edges appear. how to i go from edit mesh to edit poly whilst maintaining cleanliness of the geometry? Koper
don't think its possible, but you can use the quadrify all function in the ribbon of max 2010 to get rid of triangle faces
Dave Buckley
quadrify all doesn't seem to want to do it either, neither does the quadify modifier nor does the autoedges script. how disappointing, there must be people out there having this very same problem when working with sketchup files
Thablanch
There is a script by Pierre Felix Breton ( Autodesk) to remove edges from Revit models.. I guess this could help... http://www.pfbreton.com/2009/08/autoedges/ Edited April 12, 2010 by Thablanch
alias_marks
I guess one question that might help to know, is what are you trying to do with the sketchup models that edit mesh isn't sufficient for? i.e. why would you like to convert them to editpolys? Just more refined editing capibilities? Perhaps for beveling edges etc. easier? My workflow has usually been, if I need to edit an imported sketchup model beyond what sketchup brings into max, it's always been easier to hand model it... just my 2c
Thablanch
Or you can also go in the optimise modifier and use the button, if you only have a few pieces, and if the script is not working..
Nic H
isnt it only a visual thing though? its just hidden edges isnt it? sketchup geometry is rubbish as soon as you do anything to it. remodel it.

Peter M. Gruhn
There's an autoedge in edit mesh. Edge mode. Select All. Auto edge. If it's not working, maybe it's because there are more than one edge in the same place. Does welding all the verts help?[/guess]
