Paul Davison
Hello, I have a problem that has me stumped. Basically, using Vray in 3ds Max I'm struggling to understand the best set up for glass, if I go down the material creation using refraction it just seems to all black and makes everything inside black even if the geometry is not casting shadows and even tried making the diffuse white (makes no difference). I can kind of get over the problem by putting a fresnel falloff in the opacity channel but not sure whether this is the correct fix. Could somebody tell me what I'm doing wrong please. The mock up scene is lit using Vray sun and sky, the glass is shelled too. The dark image is with glass on (and settings) the light one is with the glass turned off totally. Thank you in advance for any help you may give Cheers Paul
Stephen Thomas
Looks like you might have mistakenly unchecked the refractive caustics box in your GI settings.
Stephen Thomas
Generally for my basic glass settings I use the following: Diffuse - black; Reflect - white; Refract - H 100, S 005, L 240 (to give a slight green tint); affect shadows on and Fresnel box ticked. Hope that helps.
