ivanjay
Hello. I use Arch Desktop 2007. I model interior spaces and bring them into Max Design for rendering purposes. I am very familiar and very efficient at modeling in CAD and a novice at Max so I prefer to stay that route. Is there a way to create an object in Arch Desktop with multiple material id's so I can bring it in to Max and use a Multi Sub Object? I am trying to create a foodservice serving counter with a color laminate. Within that body I want vertical 6" wide bands (random locations but I can place them) of a different color. Thanks! Cad64
As far as I know, there's no way to do this. If you're more comfortable building models in Autocad, then do that, but apply your materials Max. It's much easier and you have far more control in Max anyway.
Chad Warner
You can set the layer or object colors to correspond to the mat IDs in max, so red=matid 1, yellow=matid 2, green=matid 3, etc. This can be done within a layer, an ADT object, or a block, even within a single object if you use the 3d edit option to change face colors ( I don't remember what it is called). This sounds like a lot more work than it is worth. Maybe it is time I take learning modeling in Max seriously...
Chad Warner
If you're more comfortable with ACAD modeling than max modeling, it's really not much work at all.

Chad Warner
OK, sorry. In that case, you probably would be better off in max, becuase you could make a box with multiple segments in width and length and then apply different mat ids to the pieces you want. In AutoCad, you'd have to take your solid object and slice it up, or I think there's an imprint command where you can imprint a shape onto the face of a solid, and then change its mat id. That is what I thought. I can start making boxes within boxes in CAD but I think it just gets to the point of nonsense...
