nelpiper
Hi guys. Has anyone of you played with MAX 2011? I've been doing somes tests and I tried to use the snaps but they don't work anymore as they did. For instance, If I have a plane and want to snap it in 3D to a vert on a BOX, it doesn't work properly. One thing I noticed is that the "use axis center as start snap point" is not there anymore. Anyone? Thanks guys.
Bruce Hart
Just tried this and the snapping seems to work quite well, in fact much better than 2010. You don't have snap to grid turned on as well as vertex do you? What does not work properly?
nelpiper
I'm used to previous MAX versions where you have that check box I mentioned in the post. I've just did some further test and actually the workflow is better. My mistake (stupid boy!!!). Thanks Bruce.
PiXeL_MoNKeY
The new method is better as you can set "use axis center as start snap point" just based on where you grab. If the center circle is green it is enabled, if it is grey it is disabled. The system also has much better indication of start and end snapping. -Eric
Andrew Roane
I feel like I'm missing something, because I still haven't found that the new snaps have a way of using what was previously the "use axis center as start snap point" option from previous versions. In older versions of Max, my workflow for moving/copying stuff around was similar to this: 1) Select an object (with select and move tool active) 2) Hit 'Spacebar' to lock the selection 3) Pan to the desired location for the object using the middle-mouse button. Most of the time this means that the original, locked selection is no longer visible in the viewport. 4) Left-click to snap the locked selection to the current location of the mouse cursor. 5) Snap to a vertex or mid-point to make fine adjustments to the alignment of the object (if necessary). The thing that really throws me off is that with the new snaps it seems that you have to have the object visible in the viewport at all times in order to move it around. Is this right, or am I missing something obvious? Thanks guys.
