Gnarly Cranium
Grass is my bane, my nemesis, my horror.... :ngeupset: I can see how the methods outlined here would be good for making a convincing lawn... but what if the house is in more natural surroundings, with, say, bunch grasses and bushes and stuff like that??? :ngesighw:

Brian Cassil
Looks nice. Could you describe what method you used to achieve this? Also, what is the geometry count and rendering times?

DennisB
Post-processed grass can be fast and very effective, assuming it's an acceptable final format. Here's a small example that took about 30 seconds to paint. Although this one has wildflowers too, simple lawn is just as easy. I've tried to do a couple of tutorials using similarly painted textures, which depend a lot on the camera angle. See if Coyote Run (the Poser link takes you to the tutorials) or Kansas offer any new approaches. If nothing else, download the textures that go with the tutorials and give them a try. Each texture has a precise aplha channel mask. PS. These are from a commercial site, but the page links bypass the front door, etc. Good luck, Dennis@DigArts
gus_webb
i don't know if anyone will have any knowledge or experience in this, but here it goes... i'm trying to model a scene with a lawn that ends at field, so it goes from cut grass to a long prairie grass at a defined edge. i've been able to "fake" it with photoshop so far, but i'm going to animate it eventually, so i need something that looks good right out of viz. the scene is very large, with several buildings, trees, etc, so i don't want to add a ton of rendering time with a bunch of little grass models if i can help it. anybody have any thoughts? thank you! nisus
limit your cameraview to eyelevel and model/animate a small front row nisus
losbellos
try this: http://www.3dm-mc.com/tutorials/grass honesly I dint read it all, cause my eyes becoming some sort of fluid, but I think this is a good solution for all kind of persentation. (animation/still) Especially if your renderer supports instances. then you make just a little peace of it, and the play with the scatterer whatever. Good Luck!
