Devin Johnston
You should start with some reference images of water you think looks good, that will give you something to work towards. You need to work on the waves and transparency, try putting a plane below the water and making the material more transparent so you can begin to see the bottom. Work on the color of the water and give it some reflectivity so it can pick up any specular highlights.
chris723
Ok thanks, ive started to do that. But it still looks really flat, whats the secret to getting it looking like the material attached? Thanks
Tommy L
Well, thats a swatch from Vraymaterials.de So the secret to that one material, is joining and downloading it for free....
Tommy L
And it looks like it had a noise map in the bump, falloff in the diffuse, slightly blurred highlight, falloff in the reflect. Dont think its a SSS material.
Devin Johnston
Those material ball things are deceptive, they are lit very well in order to show off the material in it's best light so to speak. You will have to work on your lighting and probably the material to get it to look that good. I've found that at least half the time the material needs scene specific adjustments to make it look like the example.

I think it could be a scaling problem? however no matter what i input into the parameters the size of the material doesnt change. Do you know why this might be? The materials attached to a plane.
