hsa
Had this problem creep up on me after years of no problems. When I link a file from Autocad Architecture 2009 into Max Design 2010 I can no longer assign materials to sub components of walls, doors, windows, etc. When I try to drag seperate materials to say a frame, mullion and infill of a window only the objects layer shows up so I can't assign materials to components. I don't know if I screwed something up in File link manager or maybe screwed up a setting in Max......Any suggestions?
neko
isn't that just an option when you file link, or am i thinking of import ? edit: when you reload the linked model, you have an option of how to organize geometry, but this isn't an option the first time you link. i'm on 2009 though, so i'm assuming that hasn't changed. Yeah I tried all of the derive by options in file link manager and Max still isn't allowing me to assign materials by sub component
michaelidesm
i have a similar problem now with the latest versions of architecture and max. And funny enough it doesnt behave the same way in max 32bit and 64bit. But i found that the best way around it is to "group" together the items with similar texture/material in autodesk architecture before importing it as a file link in max. I.E. if you have ten mass elements that will have fairface texture, select those elements apply a differend "material" in architecture and then that group in max will behave separately from the rest of the mass elements. Its a bit hussle but once you get used to it becomes a standard procedure.
