(its a 2da cutter) normally in school i would do the cutting in rhino and grasshopper the model would be broken down into an unwrapped shape. do any one know how to go about making a model cut-table? thank you in advance
abmitalia
Save your file in .3ds format, which is compatible for Rhino. Make shoure you put turbosmooth on it. More detailed it is better it is for Rhino than to find curves. I do produce so files for the CNC 5axis machines and it comes out perfect. 1d2d3d4d
Go nuts: http://www.tamasoft.co.jp/pepakura-en/ "We encourage you to create original designs and respect the copyrights of others." "Pepakura Designer does not contain software to create the original 3D models, but instead translates them to a 2D printable format. Pepakura supports some 3D file formats from software such as 3D Studio, LightWave and Softimage" I'm Not sure about scaling and i think you're gonna want super low-poly models.. wassimj
Sorry for the VERY late reply, but I just needed to do the same so I wrote a script that would cut sections in 3DS Max 2012 Design and flatten them in preparation for digital fabrication (e.g. on a laser cutter). The script does not (yet) do any notching, so that has to be done manually. See a video at http://vimeo.com/31034423 and if you are interested, please contact me for the script at wassim do jabi at gmail dot com.
