rossy007
I know this has been done a lot but I will be making this easy on everyone. I am into my 2nd week of my 16 week max course and need some help. I am currently using a Toshiba laptop with AMD x2 64, 3 Gig of ram and an on board video (256 meg of shared memory). The machine struggles but it gets by. Since I am paying for the class on my own, I can only afford one of two computers and I am hoping your experience can help me choose as I know nothing about computers. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16883147255 with http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814500147 OR http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16883147096R http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814500147 I will be ordering one or the other, I just need your help. Thanks everyone
frank1331
I would be a slight bit warry about the first one. The specs are good but the fact that it is re-certified (re-furbished) is a concern. So go with the second one in my opinion.
rossy007
I will be buying the extended waranty for $59. It gives me 1 extra year.
-MerlyN-
I would choose the 1st option, if it wasnt refurbished. [sarcasm] Sure go ahead and buy the extended warranty. will surely make you feel a lot better, while you wait for your computer to come back home from repair somewhere in asia... [/sarcasm] I dont like that the second one's mainboard has a maximum of 8GB RAM, but then, I have only 4GB myself and I never really have had issues with that before, so I'd guess you'll be fine with the second one. I'd go with the 2nd one, too.
AJLynn
Number 1. Because number 2 isn't available anymore. But with a Radeon 5570 card instead of that P.O.C. nVidia 9500. My concern would be that with any upgraded power supply you might have a problem with the 350W power supply.
rossy007
Whats wrong with the video card?
AJLynn
It's weak by today's standards. ATI's previous generation 4470 was faster than the 9500 and the 5570 is faster than the 4470. The 5570 also has DX11 and uses less power than the 9500.
rossy007
So, as far as max is concerned, will the difference in the two cards be seen in the viewport. or by max in general There is a $20 difference, not a lot I know, but I am on a VERY strict budget. AJLynn
In that case, just get whatever's in budget. The only difference video cards make is in the viewport performance.
