Sketchrender
My Max subscription is out of date as of 3 weeks ago. But I can still download the update 2011. I have not installed it yet. Questions 1. Can I activate it with subscription out of date? 2 is it worth updating? 3. Will vray and Vray RT work with the new version? Any ideas anybody else in the same boat? Thanks Phil
Sketchrender
I just soke to a Autodesk rep. The product key will change everyyear apparenly with a new subscription. So 30 day trial only, strange to let you download it for a trail. Anyway knew it was too good to be true. Phil
gordo3di
Yeah it doesnt matter who or how you install it its all about activation... And IMHO while a new release always has "fun" new features, I use 2011 at home and 2010 at work and Ive found 2011 to be the same as every other update. Another release filled with new problems and pointless changes (like when you create a daylight system its now named Daylight001 instead of Daylight 01 like you're going to create 1000 daylight systems) These little changes only infuriate me because all my custom scripts and existing templates now are screwed up. Why does autodesk ALWAYS change tiny stuff that works fine forcing people to flip-flop back and forth between releases? Ive spent more time trying to work around all their new junk instead of actually getting projects done. 1. I think the new material editor is utterly useless and it just slows me way down (since now i have to dig through lists upon lists to find what im looking for). Why not just fix the old one to display materials properly. Or give a decent material browser since most people out there use the editor as their browser. 2. Ive found the new GPU renderer fails with any scene I've tried it with so I've just ignored it as is the norm with 3ds max. 3. Ive found the simple problems they have always had to still be there like improper tab stops in some modifiers and inconsistent verbiage throughout the program.. 4. Ive found the new transform gizmo to be very annoying (if you've used 2011 you might know what im talking about but maybe its just me). 5. The "save to max 2010" feature fails because when you open the scene in max 2010 its looking for max 2011 material dll's which is just a minor annoyance but this causes max to crash if you're using scene states So I recommend waiting. Autodesk has this problem of having programmers pick "shiny and fancy" new features instead of fixing the million little problems and listening to the needs of the people who actually use the program. Im definitely a max supporter but I could write a book of my issues with max over the past 10 years. Sorry for the rant
AJLynn
Did you subscription end after the new version release? I don't know if they've changed anything but when I last read one of those subscription agreements, you got all new versions released while you were on subscription and if your subscription lapsed you kept whatever you had. So if 2011 came out before your subscription lapsed, you should be entitled to the upgrade, and if not, then no.
