nicknitro
Ok Im going to be cut and dry: Scene: 27 million polys (all scenes broken up and xrefed) Rendering through Mental Ray: Low FG setting High Quality Anti Aliasing settings 2 diffuse bounces in the scene. 3ds Max 2010 Comp memory: 16 gigs Scene idle: 9.5 gigs Scene rendering: 13.5 gigs When I render one frame it jumps from the 9.5 gigs or ram sitting at idle to the 13.5 it takes to render the image. After it renders the images Mental Ray does not dump all the memory it used so my idle ram ussage now is at 11.5 gigs. If I go to render another frame Mental Ray crashes with an "insufficient memory" error. Has anyone else ran into problems with Mental Ray like this where it does not dump all the memory it had used when rendering? -Thanks
Justin Hunt
Use mrProxies and instance copies where ever possible along with BSB2. BSB2 is designed for large scenes and is able to load and unload memory as needed. If you need to free up more memory render through backburner jhv
ivanjay
I always have this problem. My machine only has 4 gigs of RAM at home on 64 bit and it is fine there. Very rarely crashes... My scenes are rarely that large... However, at work my machine is 32 bits with 4 gigs ram (of course only 3 1/2 available). I need to close Max and restart it after every render otherwise crash crash crash Soooooo frustrating!
