Devin Johnston
Has anyone noticed Max is using more ram than say Max 2009? I've run a few tests, when Max 2011 first opens it's initial memory footprint is approximately 176MB larger than Max 2009. When I test the two program using actual scenes the numbers get even bigger. I've done 3 tests using 3 different projects, here are the results. Scene 1: Max 2011-3.5GB Max 2009-3.05GB 450 MB difference Scene 2: Max 2011-1.5GB Max 2009-800MB 700 MB difference Scene 3: Max 2011-3.9GB Max 2009-3.54GB 420 MB difference Can anyone confirm this, I'm using Vray and as far as Vlado is concerned it isn't causing this. Peter M. Gruhn
I can neither confirm nor deny that, but decreasing footpring is, as I understand, on their list of important things being worked on even as we type.
PiXeL_MoNKeY
That is kind of expected. More plugins loaded on start means more memory to begin with, the viewports are using more memory to make viewports more interactive and to expand on the display quality, Ribbon and UI features could also add to the cause, etc. As Peter mentioned the memory footprint (though they only listed a target for 32bit platforms) is a part of the XBR process, but the when and how it will happen isn't public knowledge. -Eric
kenpimentel
If 3ds Max uses more RAM but you have faster performance, is that a good thing or a bad thing? Last I checked, RAM was pretty cheap these days.
