I may be going to London (and other points near) next April with my family, first week. My sister is going to be there with her family and we could split renting an apartment (flat!). Which neighborhood I do not yet know.

I see that there are several choices of airport to fly into. Are any better than others?

Any other tips for long-range planning? This trip is not definate, even good airfares get high when you do 4X on them.

Found this for you.

Go on the London Eye! ace. Go to The Comedy Store! Funny, and go to the Pubs. Lovely.

Do not under any circumstances when you are waiting for a taxi late at night get in a fake taxi or someone who says £2 anywhere! They prolly have other intentions. and they dont know where they are going anyway.! Look for the appropriate licenses or better still get a black cab! But you seem like a intelligent guy so I dont think you would anyway!

Ernest - try to get a flight into Stansted airport - designed by Norman Foster in the late 80's? It's a great space - everything under one giant space frame. The passenger floor has these "information, utility, structural - pod columns that resemble trees on an abstract level. I think you'll like it.

Foster's site: http://www.fosterandpartners.com/internetsite/html/ - Look for Stansted Airport.

Hey Ernest,

You'll either want to fly into Heathrow or Gatewick. Which really depends where you are going as they are on opposites ends of the City. Of course if one is cheaper, it's just a matter of taking the train to wherever you need to get to. I've only flown into Heathrow, and I take the Heathrow Express Train that goes direct to Paddington Station. From there you can take the tube anywhere you need to go. Alternately you can take the tube direct from Heathrow but it take an hour vs 15 min to get into the City. I belive Gatwick also has a dedicated train into the city.

To plan your visit and trains you need to take ahead of time, go to www.thetube.com. They have a journey planner that allows you to enter in addresses and it will tell you which trains to take, how long it will take to get their. Very handy tool IMHO.

Here is the site for the Heathrow Express http://www.heathrowexpress.com/
