braddewald
I've started noticing that every brochure, commercial, print ad, product close-up.... pretty much anything in an advertisement is or could be (or should be ) a rendering. How deep does it go? I see the backplates that dosch sells and I think, "I've seen that in a Volvo brochure." My co-worker has developed a conspiracy theory of sorts and is now convinced that nearly everything we see in ads is, in fact, not real at all. I'd love to get some opinions on what is real, what is not, how and why? Cheers! (P.S. Is there a way to say "cheers" in American)
Devin Johnston
I've noticed that virtually all car commercials are CG now, some of them are done very well while other are so obviously CG one wonders if they got a guy in his basement to do them. I think it's inevitable that most product advertisement will eventually go the CG rout, it's just so much cheaper and easier to do everything in the computer. anejo
... much cheaper and easier to do everything in the computer. However, on the flapside, there will be a lot of photographers out of work.
Tommy L
However, on the flapside, there will be a lot of photographers out of work. All pro photographers are panicking, buying D5's and calling themselves videographers. No joke.

Hey, I just got a 5Dii, and I'm the best videographer there is , just need to find out where to press the record button, hehehe. You just need to decide if you want the blue pill or the red pill - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DyTBHdsEPjc
ihabkal
amazing, we learn so much from them, yet our profession hurts them. much like when we started with 3d studio for dos and were learning from traditional architectural illustrators...and now there are only a few left. BVI
We have done several virtual set replacements for some clients mainly for TV adverts. At times, I can't really understand why they would want to swap out the real thing for cg - but I suppose it gives them lots of control. It's all about control I guess. Koper
sorry for the OT Nic, yes, its 21. I just got back from shooting a wedding and although I wanted to shoot some video clips or just use the live view to shoot the pictures, i decided against it as its a bit different work flow than I'm used to. However i'll be trying a short film soon to learn this new toy. ..... and off goes the shoes.... aahhhhh

This is something Im trying to get into. There are lots of reasons for doing cg sets....but it all comes down to money in the end. I was talking to a retired pro photographer last night. He said "yeah, everyones dropping out, retiring, doing video, whatever. Pretty soon someone will look around for a good photographer and they wont be able to find one. Everyone is settling for shit nowadays." And I agree with him. There is alot of bad photography out there and it all started with access to cheap digital. The 'economy' has forced down budgets, that and cgi and istock in combination have killed photography as it was. No-one is going into photography down the same route as 30 years ago.
