err....how would you solve this problem

Hi all

 

I have a max scene with 10 door shaped pieces of geometry. I need to make these items refer to an external file (of one single door) in a similar manner to using xref object.

I could apply a substitute modifier to all the doors and refer to external file, but this seems a little inefficient due to extra memory overhead of another modifier!

I could just convert all the doors to an xref, but then my external file would have 10 doors in it and that would make modifying the door a proverbial pain in the you know whats :(

Anyone got any ideas?
