Anyone using Logitech MX Revolution mouse with 3dsMax?

I am test driving a Logitech MX Revolution mouse this week. It is nice, but I am not sure if it is as nice as the price tag. I am having 1 problem though...

When I push down on the middle button in max it does not enable the pan tool, and I can not figure out how to get this to work. Anyone else having this issue?

Go under your mouse settings and assign it a keystroke. For example, I assigned "P" for pan. I push my mouse wheel to the left and right click. That enables the pan command. For some reason, pushing down on the mouse wheel doesn't work for me either. I hope this helps.

go to the logitech "setpoing" properties in the taskbar menu (right next to the clock), or install setpoint if not installed.

there go to the mouse properties and assign the middle mouse button to be "middle button".

I'd also disable the left-right scroll movement done by the scroll button, since it causes unwanted panning if accidental moved.

p.s. that's one great mouse

mine broke down... I really used it a lot, but was still under warranty. they replaced it with a mx performance... :( it+s great, but the "lock" button is really annoying-has a spring under it that keeps vibrating when I scroll :( I have it duck-taped so it wouldnt

This works, but is not as "clean" and smooth of an option as the normal middle mouse button. You have to cancel out of the pan, etc...

Also, it doesn't solve middle mouse button issues in other applications.

I can't seem to tell which is the middle mouse button....??? Please see attachment.

Nevermind. I figured it out. The one that said do nothing was the middle button. They need to get better graphics that represent the mouse, and has an arrow to the button on the mouse that you are assigning. It would have been more intuitve that way.

My intitial reaction to this mouse is how sensitive it is. That is going to take some adjusting to, but I think it will greatly speed me up, while limiting the amount of movement my arm has to do.

Now I just need to figure out what the difference is between the Revolution and the Performance editions of this mouse. Is the performance simply the update for the Revolution?

It looks like I can pick up a Performance for $65. It is $80 before rebate. Which means the price is $80. I don't trust after purchase rebates. It seems like I never receive them.

So after working with this mouse for a couple of hours I find my thumb really tired, and cramping.

I don't think it is because my thumb is doing a lot of work. I think it is because my thumb is in a different position than what I am used to. I have to keep it back a bit to keep from hitting the scroll wheel and buttons on the side. Maybe I will get used to it, and adjust.

I'm using one for about three years now. I really got quite used to it and like it a lot. Only thing, that bothers me, is that you cant replace the battery. Mine's down to two days maximum usage now. I lasted a week without recharging when I got it, now I have to have it in the loading dock every other night. Guess I'll have to replace it sometime not too far ahead...

As of the middle mouse button issue... Its the first thing I ever do setting the button config in the driver to standard button... I never quite understood, what devil rode the programmers to change the standard button config anyway... I love the instantsearch button, have never used the side scroll wheel in all the three years...

I hardly use the middle mouse button, though, cause I've got a 3dconnexion space navigator and absolutely love that one. If you work with MAX or another package you should definitely consider getting one.

i tried this mouse and hated it. my hand was also cramping up during prolonged use and i put it down to the fact that the whole hand rests on the mouse so it's difficult to control movement (for me). so i tried to roll my hand round so that my little finger would drag on the 'floor' to give a bit of control but this just made me ache in different places. i also found it to be heavier than necessary.

in the end i got a Razer Deathadder (wired but super accurate and perfect weight) - middle button is still not perfect to press (but way better than the MX), but the mouse itself is o so comfortable. most importantly, my hand no longer aches during use. FYI it is also possible to turn off the blue glow on the wheel and logo.

ultimately though, it's the size of your hand that will dictate which mouse is right for you so try a few out and see which one works best for you.

edit: Razer now has an 'Imperator' mouse which apparently is even more comfortable (if you're right handed). might get one of these for myself...

I suggest you give it to service, since the warranty is 3 years. they should replace the battery for you, or provide you with a new mouse.
