Just for Fun: Stereoscopic Render Test

To see the 3-D (stereo) effect, cross your eyes till you see three pictures where there are really just two. The middle picture of the three will have the 3-D effect.

Image A (no camera shift)

filepush.asp?file=noshift.jpg

As you might see, the red sphere is still flat and has no 'z-depth'

Image B (with horizontal camera shift)

filepush.asp?file=stereotest_1.jpg

Red sphere now has 'z-depth'

I thought I'd test if I can render a 3d stereo effect. Next test is to render architecture stuff.

Have fun.

Very cool!

I have wondered if this type of effect could be acheived on the computer, but this is the first time I have seen a sucessfull experiment.

The only problem is that I think that the number of people who can "free view" images like this are very few. I can do it because I have a collection of stereo cards, but i have found that most people, even with instruction, can not do it.

You might look into some software that I have seen floting around that composite the images so you can use special red and blue goggles to view the image in 3d.

Make shure you post any architecture you do like this!
