archkre
Can anybody give me advise about websites in which could find job offers like:E-architect,archrecore.com,etc? And what areas of continental U.S. do you recommend me to search? Thanks a lot! [ August 03, 2003, 11:15 AM: Message edited by: archkre ]

William Alexander
archkre, Sologig.com, Elance.com, manpower for arch, & many of the graphics sites like turbo squid, have forums and posting for jobs, freelance ect. Tampa had alot of activity earlier this year, Arch and Illustration. I'm not familar with Miami Lakes, as to where it actually is. I would figure close to Miami. Nothing of any substance there? Interior designers, developers, real estate, for illustration anyway. If your looking for arch jobs and can tolerate residential, try the local newspapers web sites. Up here in the Milwaukee WI Metro Area, for example a number of builders are hiring architects to help gain the upper end jobs. Property values here have gone through the roof. 300k new homes going for like 485k and selling. Another locale for this might be Pittsburg PA. I met a builder while in Clearwater Fl, from there. To stay competitive he said, many others have hired full time architects. Institutional is going well here also, but speciality experience is usally required. Sincercerly, Best of Luck! John Dollus
Well, for starters, I would suggest putting up a simple web page in the space you already have. It doesn't have to have anything other than your resume and a few still images representative of your work. Don't worry about making the 'ultimate' interactive flash 'page of the year'. It just needs to have some basic info. Be sure to state on the page that you are willing to relocate. After you have that web page up, post a message here and on the Max support forum (support.discreet.com) asking for input from members. When you receive that input, thank everyone graciously regardless of your personal opinion and then implement any suggestions that you feel will help. Also, refrain from adding anything negative on what you send out. For instance, if a recruiter from Big Idea happened upon this site and was interested in hiring you, I guarantee that they would not after reading your profile. As strange as it may sound, Monster.com actually has quite a few jobs that don't appear on specialty job boards like 3dcafe or e-architect. Many of those are gov't jobs which pay very well over time and are not as subject to finicky market conditions as other positions.
schmoron13
following up on John D's comment, here's a link in 3dtalk.com (i know i know) that talks about john's specific issue (portfolio websites). Personally, the site I'm working on (my first ) though still in the planning stages, is definitely not going to be SUPER FLASHY. Not that I have anything against those sites, per se, but even the well done ones get annoying. There's nothing like having a T1 connection and still having to wait 20 seconds initially, and then wait 2-5 seconds per page for all the flash junk to load. That's not to say that you should make it look like it was created 8 years ago , but luckily, since you're in cg graphics you should have some understanding of layout and design...good luck
