Crazy Homeless Guy
My undergraduate studies are in architecture, but in the years since I have been out of school I have worked primarily in architectural illustration. The firm I work for picks up the yearly dues of architects who are members of AIA (American Institute of Architects). Really AIA does not mean a lot besides putting fancy letters behind your name, and make you look more important than you are. Anyway, to the point, is there a society similar to this that fits the architectural illustration field? As long as my firm is willing to pay other peoples dues, I might as well try and get fancy letters for myself also. Then I could feel special. ts. salty_dogs
call ME krazy, but i'd rather take the cash. i've seen your work and you don't need a couple letter pasted on for show. i know aia'ers who aren't worth a hoot. now its a matter of getting the cont. ed. requirements that most states are requiring and it just so happens that the aia is a convenient way of fulfilling it. here, take my money. arch83
In our state the AIA successfully lobbied the legislature to allow Architects to have the same lien rights as contractors. Now we can attach the property of deadbeat clients and ultimately force the sale to satisfy liens which. When those liens are satisfied we all get paid. There are many benefits to supporting the organization whether you want the letters after your name or not. Yes I am registered, yes I am a member, yes I support the programs and yes I benefit. I pay my own dues. It's like anything, you only get out of it what you put in. Jeff Gagnon, AIA BTW - here is the link to the American Society of Architectural Illustrators http://www.asai.org/toc.html Who, by the way, recieved an AIA Institute Honor Award [ June 03, 2003, 08:20 PM: Message edited by: arch83 ]
Sawyer
The architect I work for was talking about this the other day. He used to do the aia thing and now he doesn't. Mostly I think he just doesn't get into being in a club. He didn't do any AIA things and really didnt get much out of it. I think if you like doing the group scene AIA is a good call. I myself am interested in the asai route just because I would get a kick out of adding a couple letters to my name. Simular to a tatoo a guess another one of those things everyone can see but is required to ask "but what does it mean?" & I say " well when you stretch it out it reads 'welcome to jamaica mon..." Jeeze I think I need to check my meds levels. I am just rambling.
