nidas
anyone using this combo? are there any issues? the advantage would be -no need to rework materials when model needs to be updated. just curious before our firm makes jump to ArchiCAD. -nidas
Kerry Thompson
Hi In my experience, dwg files written out of ArchiCAD do not "file link" directly with Viz. The ArchiCAD dwg will file link but the structure is not friendly to applying materials easily. While ArchiCAD can write out dwg format, the structure of the file is such that you have to go through a process in an AutoCAD to tidy up the file - the archiCAD file is written out structured by material, it is then exploded, all the line work removed leaving a series of poly face meshes on layer 0 and their vertices on the material layer. Each mesh is then set by layer and set to the correct materiel layer. It will then dwglink to Viz with a structure that will allow material to be more easily added. Any change to the model will require this non trivial process to be followed. Kerry Thompson
