Ken Walton
Hey everyone: Glad to see the new section - I was about to recommend one. Anyway, I just got my full version up and running yesterday (shipment got botched, but I was able to go through the tutorials with the demo cd - are these tut's kinda hard to follow for anyone else? Maybe I was just worn out...) I can't seem to figure out how to get some real detail in/around my scene. For example, I need fluted casings around all the doors and windows, but the only place I seem to be able to apply mouldings are base/chair/crown. This is by using the object library, which I'm positive is not sufficient (at least out of the box) for what I'm attempting. I'm under the impression (since it's so simple) that I should be able to define a profile (tried a couple times lastnight, but couldn't seem to extrude/sweep z) and then my path (like lofting in max). I'm sure this is possible (even though I don't know how to do it), but how difficult would it be to create a library object for these casings, and could you incorporate rosettes/bullseyes/plinth blocks into them? If it's pretty complex and you'd know how to script it, email me and maybe we could work something($) out. If its something simple, I'm looking forward to the advice. Thanks, Ken Walton
matt_vinoir
magic wand the profile is slab. give it what ever length, then save it in plan view as object library part. then reapply it to the original scene. Messy i know but you get used to it and it becomes second nature.
plastic
you can create your own library elements with max for example, there is a 3ds to gsm converter, there are also archicad extentions for object modelling. with archicad alone its a bit complicated because you have to script the object if you want it to be parametric. you can convert any archicad geometry to a gms object, but then you can't define custom properties like with the stock archicad lib objects
Ken Walton
3ds to GSM converter? Where can I find it, and how effective is it?
plastic
here are some GDL links & tools: http://www.gdlcentral.com/ http://www.archidata.hu/GDLToolbox.html http://www.archiradar.com/ita/addon/gdltoolbox.htm http://www.gdltoolbox.com/ http://www.graphisoft.com/news/zoomgdl.html?printable=1 personally i don't use this stuff, i use the stock archicad library for doors & windows, and insert my own elements with 3dsmax. Paul Griger
Hi Ken, The windows/doors are a weak offering by Graphisoft in the stock library. If you want to do custom profiles you can do what has been suggested or: 1. Use the profile tool, found here: C:\Program Files\Archicad\Goodies\Profiler\Add-On You can drop the “profiler.apx” into the “add-on” C:\Program Files\Archicad\Add-Ons, or load the .apx file at under the “tools” drop down menu 2. But ArchiForma. Makes it easier for a newbie to do 3D moulding, not much beyond what profiler does though. Does make it easy to rotate a 3D object made by ArchiForma only.
