NPR Tutorial with Photoshop

Hi, there!

Months ago, we answered a poll about NPR images. It made me try some techniques to achieve that kind of result out from my regular renderings. Back then, I developed a pretty simple way of getting it done, and now I got the time to put it in the shape of a tutorial. The technique itself is really, really simple, and it gives you space to release the artist that lies in you :p

Anyway, you'll find it here

After you read it, let me know what you think, ok? This is only my second tutorial (my first was on ArchiCAD), so be gentle, ok? redface2.gif

Hey, guys! Thank you all for your support!

@lkion O, this idea was "developed" really fast. I sat here after reading and answering that poll about NPR months ago and started to play around with Photoshop. You see, the idea is really, really simple (so simple that I had second thoughts about making a tutorial out of it).

I know the tutorial is crude, but I promise to make better ones in the future (in case I make more!).

Thank you!

BTW, feel free to post your tips and techs on how to make NPR's here! I'd love to see how you guys solved this kind of situation!

Hi Rick,

this tutorial is really work of art, congrats!!!

While I was reading the tutorial, one idea came to my mind:

If you, before you start with any operation, start recording an action, you might, theoretically, make a button to transfer you CGI 3D to traditional 3D in just couple of seconds.

I hope that this might help, to speed up our already hard work.

Regards Sergio! :)

Hey, Sergio! Thank you for the comps!

That would really be interesting, but the thing is that you can't make it automatic exactly because it's the art feeling that you want to achieve. That so, making this am "action", you loose every personnal touch you can achieve with the manual way. Right?

And, of course, every image is different, so it's almost impossible to create an action that fits every image....

Hey, guys! Just an update here. In case you don't speak english very well (or it's not your first language), my good-old tutorial is now available in russian :???: .

Yes, it sounds weird, but a guy named Vadim Horyakov translated it into russian and published it on his website. You can visit it here

This is the power of CGArchitect, my friends!

Yes, it's up and running. Of course, you'll notice the server is not all that, with the pictures taking forever to render on the screen, but it still works. If they don't appear at first, right-click them and select "Show Image".

Thanks!

CORRECTION: The new link for this tutorial is HERE

Cheers!

Huh, sorry, but i get the message "can't find server" for any of your tut links, minus the russian one.

So i copied the russian one and ran it through Bablefish for the english translation :D

Anyways, i did the tut and it was a big help, thx!

I posted my attempt with your tut in the finished section.

Thx,

paul

Weird...I just accessed it thru the link on your quote and it worked fine.....Internet: I'll never understand it...

If you want, I can send you the original file via e-mail.

BTW, I saw the image you mentioned. I loved the idea of adding the sketch render from ArchiCAD to it, very nice!

Hi, guys!

Thank you for your interest! I'll upload the files to another server (this one seems to block access from other countries... :???: ). I'll do it today, so stay tunned!

Add: try to copy/paste the link to your web browser. The direct linking didn't work for me either, maybe this is what is wrong....
