STRAT
Hi Jeff Can you pls enlighten me a little maybe - How does the concept of clicking on the advertising banners work? how do the respective parties (ie, you and the companies) get money from it? is it literally just a simple case of clicking on these banners that helps out? the more times we click on them the better or wat? just curious. always willing to help out where i can [ December 13, 2002, 05:02 AM: Message edited by: STRAT ]
Jeff Mottle
Hey STRAT, Advertisers place banners on the site so that they can solicit their products and serrvices. Although their is benefit to just seeing the banners there and this does increase brand awareness, it does not give the advertsiers a mesure of how successfull the ad campaign may be. So we instead, like almost all online ad campaigns, we track the number of click throughs. This lets the advertiser know that you have acknoledged the ad and have taken the time to go to their website and hopefully view and learn more about what they are offering. The more people that view the site and more pages that get viwed means more ads are served whivh statistically mean more people have seen the ad and will hopefully visist the site. In addition to the number of click throughs (CT) there is also a ratio called CTRs (Click through Ratio) this is a percentage of banner click per the number of page views. So if 4 banners are served and one person clicks the CTR is 25%. Industry average CTR is about 0.1%-1.0% So you can see based upon how few people actually click it is important to serve more banners. To serve more banners you need more visits and to get more visist you need to attract people with good content and keep it up to date consistantly. It is a very tightly knit circle and if one compenenent fails the whole scheme does not work. So keep visiting the sponsors and view all of the site's new content and we will be abel to keep things running.
