Well, well....I`m not an expert, but I think I can help you.

Which OS are you running? You know, VRay is not exactly Win98 friendly...And, since you said you`re using it with Max 3, I assume you`re not under Win2000 or XP. In most cases, that`s why VRay freezes during the "Building SD tree" phase.

So, my advise is to change to Win2000 (not only because of VRay, but for 3D stuff in general)

Ok?

rick,

since it appears you know a thing or two bout VRay, and that NPR tutorial was awesome (though I couldn't get it to work well with PS 6, though now that I have 7-boss ok'd Video Editing Collection-I'll try again), would you have any general tips or a tutorial for vRay free?

Thanks, schmoron13!

Unfortunately, I don't have a tutorial for VRay free, BUT if you go to this page you'll find 2 great tutorials on VRay Advance that might help you at least understanding how VRay works.

Oh, and about that NPR tutorial, a guy in Russia is translating it to that language...I guess it's not a bad tutorial after all! :D

Rick Eloy: I'm getting the "Building Static Raycast Accelator" message when trying to render out my scene. Vray then proceeds to crash a few seconds after. I'm using Vray 1.5 RC3 and VIZ 2007. Why is this message coming up? How can I go about fixing it? Thanks

My work computer is a Dell pentium D. I'm not sure of all of the specs. The scene is quite simple. I'm modelling some Mies buildings located here in Chicago. I have a ton of instances though. I'm wondering if that could be the problem. There are several hundred windows and window frames per building. Someone of Chaosgroup said to read about 3gb Switch.
