flarchitect
I have a base floorplan drawn with multiple colors/layers that I am xrefing to make background sheets for. I want to make all the lines on the xref'd sheets one color (color 9) so they print lightly. Problem is only the layers with bylayer color on the base are able to be converted to color 9 on the xref'd sheets. How can I get all lines to be the same color on my background sheets? cullen
I assume that this is in AutoCAD.... If so, inside of your layer properties, you can select your xref layers (the ones with the name of your file then a "|" after it) and change the colors. Something that you will run into is if you have things that are forced colors in your xref, they will not change unless you go to the source drawing. Same is true for block inersted on certain layers. hope that helps, crw
flarchitect
sorry, this is in 2004LT. I have changed all layers in the xref'd file to color 9. Most of them change to color 9, but the ones in the base file that aren't on bylayer remain the color they are in the base file even though they are changed in the xref'd file. Onslaught
check if they are blocks. if they are you have to explode them or redefine them on the base plan.
flarchitect
no blocks, just lines. So do the base file lines need to be drawn all on BYLAYER color in order for this to work? Bylayer colored lines are the only ones changing. THe rest are staying the color they are in the base file. ugh.
Onslaught
In Acad 2004 there is a command called "refedit". You can edit xrefs without opening the base drawing. I don't know if 2004LT has this function. Is it too much to just change it on the base drawings?
kingeldar
that aren't on bylayer remain the color they are in the base file even though they are changed in the xref'd file.of course cause if they aren't bylayer the color assigned to the object bypasses layer color so u got to change layers to bylayer or change source object color (if i remember well my 2d techniques...) UltraCadViolet
HMMM.... I just wanted to ask if you actually have tried just going into the origianal file. Changing the colors in the Layer Properties.. I think you have done that>.. then.. you might just want to hightlight those layers.. as in click from the right corner to the left of course and so that all the lines are highlighted then, where the color is displyed on the top of the color layer, make sure that it displays {{color --- by layer}}. it could be that maybe some lines are individually assigned colors or something.. maybe it's that simple, but i haven't heard anyone say anything about that. if it still then after you try that. run the explode command a few times. maybe they are just block within blocks. sometimes it works for me. i explode the same lines a few times. and find out that they are lines on top of lines. so i erase the top line.. making sure that the line is just the same as the line below. if it's much shorter or cut off then find out what topo line you want to keep. It's a bit confusing. but it might work. I've had lines on top of lines and then just erased some or highlighted them and put then under the other lines and the color came out fine. PM. me if its confusing..
