Is it worth to move to Max 6, for Architectural renderings?

I'm working with Max 5.1+Vray

Thank you!

It might be if you can get it with or do the subscription service with the file linking. Mental Ray may or may not be of any use if you are used to full blown Vray. Powerful tool but very a rather steep learning curve, MR that is.

Download the 30 day free trial, full version, from the discreet website and compare, if you have not already done so.

You are already in the max platform, staying current has it's advantages. To jump to Viz or other and out lay more $$$ does not seem to make alot of sense.

I would stay away from max6 for now if you use vray. They are still working out the bugs with no release date set for a fully functional release.

Actually, Chaos Group has already a new version of a corrected VRay for Max6 coming. As far as I heard, it's already finished and about to be released.

I'm on the subscription programme so upgraded to 6 without even thinking about it. To be honest I tried using Mental Ray but with limited personal success. I started using Vray about a month agao and already have completed a five minute animation with it. However, I do get the impression from the Vray forums that with Max 6 I am missing out on a lot of functionality available in Max 5. To be honest, I could do all I need to in Max 5 if it weren't for the fact that a lot of my stuff has now been saved up to v6.

Jim --

My firm is only weeks away from upgrading from Max 4.2 to 6 -- but we're heavily reliant on vray for our production work. Any chance you could go into more detail about the problems getting the two to work together? Or is there anywhere on the net where this information can be found? Thanks so much.

Sorry if I skipped the obvious step. Guess I don't normally expect companies to splay out the deficiencies of their flagship software on their websites. I got as far as reading that distributive render doesn't work in the messageboards and that's all I needed to hear. That eliminates the possibility of using Max6 for production work until a new vray release.

Glad to find this out now. Thanks guys.

Shaun,

I don't have a list, I just keep spotting threads in the Vray forums where those who have upgraded to Max 6 keep bemoaning the loss of certain features. One of the main ones seems to be distributed rendering not having made the upgrade yet.

On the whole though, I've been very happy with Vray in the month since I started using it.
