STRAT
we use it in work and think it's a tremendous tool. nice and fast and easy to learn. basically it's AEC on speed!
Spongebob
Great program. Very easy to use and helps alot when you want to visualize something fast. Our company purchased one seat of this program once we played with the demo and liked it. Now that we have it we dont use it very often. Go figure. Its kind of a fast and dirty 3D package. If I had any time alloted in the budget at all for 3d I would use 3D Studio. If I had no money in it but feel that something could be easier explained or displayed in 3D I would use sketchup. Anyway I'm sure Autodesk will buy it one day and integrate it into Architectural Studio (a program whos 3D is greatly limited) Once that happens it will be one awesome package. stefkeB
We use it at the university to teach our students the concept of 3D-modelling and let them make some basic preliminary designs for a small building. Without any prior CAD or 3D-knowledge. After half an hour of explanation, they all get the hang of it. Very cool. The cruel part is that they are forced to transform their design into AutoCAD solids after that... We did learn that the quality of their designs improved, because they don't start in AutoCAD anymore so are not forced to design things that are easy to do in AutoCAD. Sketchup is one of the best modelling tools ever, certainly for architects. The small toolset and the well thought out graphical interface and feedback while modelling are very usable. I don't think the price is that expensive. After all, it's for a rather small market. And their upgrading prices are very reasonable.

Do you work at University? this idea of sense of freedom gives from SketchUP is an intersting point. For our studio is just a problem of visualization anyway Can you give me a list of software as sketckup to compare. I'm thinking about Piranesi. Anyway in architectural world is a new perspective. We are loosing pure CAD tools for more free ssoftware. We have to think about this. conclusions Maybe we will buy it
bigcahunak
Can you give me a list of software as sketckup to compare. I'm thinking about Piranesi. You just cant compare SketchUP to anything else. Its in a category of its own, definitely not Piranesi, which isnt a modeler or a design tool. Just download the demo and see for yourself.
Carlocki
yes I tested it is a good tool abut piranesi what is it?
bigcahunak
Piranesi is a painting program that can respond to the depth stored in each pixel. It has a special image format, which the image has to saved in from your 3d modeling tool. You can get much more info with illustrations over at their web page. mauarduz
I think sketchup is a fantastic program, it is easy to learn, has a great price, imports dwg, and i think it will evolve.

We tested the dwg importing. In 3.0 version of Sketch up is not so good
