archkre
When I was turning my PC on, WinXp Pro O.S. a message "Some file is missing or corrupted in c:/windows/system32/system" I tried to restart from Win XP cd, but all the options ask me to format my HDD (loosing all what I have there) and re-installing WinXP! What can I do to restore my system without loosing my data and not having to reinstall all the soft?
rivoli
this won't solve your problem, but if you don't have a partition just for your data then reinstall xp on C:. it will ask you wether you want to use the existing WINDOWS folder or install the OC in another one. name this new installation folder something like WINDOWS2. doing so you'll have 2 OS on your machine, one corrupted and one not. when asked boot from the newly installed xp, this will save all your data, but problably not all the software will work. mattclasvegas
If you don't have a partitioned drive you can also buy a new drive and install your operating system on the new drive (leaving in the old drive). I did that last year and have now have a data drive and a OS and software drive.
ch83575
That error almost always means that your drive is physicaly corrupting blocks of memmory. For that reason I probably wouldn't rely on it as a backup location although you might not notice any problems for a long time. Once the drive becomes mostly full you might start to notice slightly currupted files, obviusly a currupted max file is less harmfull than a system file, but it also might be much more valuable. bigcahunak
What happens when u try to boot into safe mode? some leads: Safe mode - change display res to something very low Remove all PCI cards and even try a different VID card If you have any data that u need and dont want to buy or borrow a second HDD, try ghosting to CDs from DOS (assuming u have a CDR). Good luck.
